recent notes
In March /April /May
I watch lives unfold through windows
Cooking dinner
Mending clothes
The blossom falls into the courtyard below
Pink drifts swept up by the caretaker in a blue peaked cap
Collecting in the sink—crumbs, petals,
Shards of limescale
I hide behind a jar of yellow roses
As I wash the dishes
Embarrassed to think
That they might be watching me too
The way I’ve cut my hair in a hurry
And played the same song over and over
The way I’ve sliced the bread all wrong
Wafer thin at one edge, a slope of sourdough
Doorstops
I’m just trying to keep it all together
With butter and marmalade
Goats cheese and pickled cabbage
Rinsing a handful of the first strawberries
On the doorstep of summer
